20 years later … I’m still Mad About You

In its return, Mad About You will explore the modern marriage through the eyes of the Buchmans (Reiser and Hunt) as newly minted empty-nesters after dropping their unpredictable, hard-to-control daughter Mabel off at college. (synopsis (c) Deadline)

TV revivals are a wonderful thing.

Let me qualify that — TV revivals done well are a wonderful thing.

And given the original team is back on board, I have every confidence that the return of Mad About You for a 12-episode “limited event series” will be a very good thing indeed.

Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt are back as Paul and Jamie Buchman but this time they’re dealing with that weird period of life where the kids have grown up, left home and you have to work out, as empty nesters, how you’re going to live your life as just a couple again.

It’s exciting and terrifying all at once, and I have no doubt that Mad About You will make poignant comedy gold out of their daughter Mabel’s departure to college (she will be played in the limited series by Abby Quinn; in the original series run, she was played as a teen by Cara DeLizia and as a twentysomething adult by Janeane Garofalo).

We burst back into the final frontier later this year on Charter’s Spectrum Originals (no word yet on who will carry this internationally).
