Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) was one of the most fun, enjoyable and mischievously out there superhero movies to come along in quite some time.

While the narrative was deadly serious – it was all about saving the galaxy after all – the repartee between the four main characters, none of whom were a natural fit for a team, was a joy to behold, equal parts teasing affection and growing but grudging regard for each other.

Naturally, we all wanted the sequel to come out almost immediately – weirdly enough it didn’t – but now the first big trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now upon us, giving us a look at a slightly more grown but still childlike Groot (Vin Diesel), who totally steals the show, a frustrated Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and Star-Lord aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds more of his secrets being spilled than he’d like (such as his attraction to Gamora played by Zoe Saldana) courtesy of a former Avenger Mantis (Pom Klementieff).

And there are monsters – big bad monsters such as the Abilisk which looks fearsome indeed; not so fearsome though that Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) is afraid to take the fight to it in what looks the mother of all space battles (as if the Guardians would have it any other way).

There is, of course, lots of wonderful retro music – it’s one of the things that so beautifully defined the first film – and that continues with the new film whose trailer uses the 1974 song by Sweet, “Fox on the Run” to give it a suitably atmospheric edge.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases 5 May 2017 in USA and 25 April in Australia.

LEGO is everywhere, even in the outer reaches of space it seems if the bricked-up version of the teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is any indication. Huxley Berg, LEGO builder extraordinaire has crafted a LEGO version of the trailer that’s so good that the director of the franchise, James Gunn, has given it his stamp of approval. Yeah, it’s that good – enjoy! (source: EW)
