SNAPSHOT
The Christmas episode this year will have the Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for adventure in New York. With aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask? (synopsis via Bleeding Cool)

I am a complete sucker for Christmas TV specials.

OK, I am completely into Christmas full stop but there’s something about seeing my favourite TV shows festooned with tinsel, the joy of the season and ash of peace, love and goodwill to all men, women and children that does my heart good.

Alas, thanks to fairly lacklustre seasons eight and nine, Doctor Who doesn’t hold quite the place in my heart that it once did, but such is the power of the most wonderful time of the year, even when aliens are on the attack, that I am willing to forgive it and watch its upcoming Christmas special, which will be broadcast, as has been the tradition since 2005, on Christmas Day (Boxing Day in Australia).

In this year’s festive instalment, The Return of Doctor Mysterio, the Doctor, and his new companion Bill (Pearl Mackie) team up with a good old-fashioned superhero – think Clark Kent/Superman in his golden era – to defeat another enemy onslaught with supremely poor timing.

I mean c’mon! Who interrupts all that yummy food, wine, present giving and time with family? Only the coldest-hearted of cold-hearted aliens that’s who. (Then again if you’re ruthlessly invading someone else’s planet you’re hardly a Care Bear now are you?)

And according to Comics Alliance, there will be some other people along for the sleigh ride, in addition to the aforementioned Bill …

“Elsewhere, in addition to Michelle Gomez’s likely return as Missy and Matt Lucas’ return as Nardole, Season 10 will also feature Jekyll & Hyde star Stephanie Hyam in a minor role … while Peter Capaldi has suggested Jenna Coleman’s Clara might return in some form.”

So exterminate all that humdug-ness, get yourself a hearty glass of eggnog and get ready to see the Earth saved once again from the comfort of your comfy couch this Christmas.

Ho Ho … RUN!!
