Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is an upcoming American comedy film directed by David Dobkin, written by Andrew Steele and Will Ferrell and starring Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan, Dan Stevens and Demi Lovato. The film follows Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir as they are given the chance to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest. (synopsis (c) Wikipedia)

We might not have Eurovision in its usual form this year thanks to the havoc wrought by COVID-19 – Shine a Light tried to fill the void but didn’t succeeds in creating the usual key change-y, pyrotechnic-glowing, glittery-sprinkled magic.

But fear not, all is not lost!

For into that void between non-Eurovision and Eurovision proper as it will hopefully take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands next year, comes Will Ferrell’s Netflix-released film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

While the trailer for the film has dropped just yet, we do have a 1 1/2 minute excerpt from one particular song that captures the feel of Eurovision perfectly with Vulture describing “Volcano Man” as a track that is pure Eurovision – “absurd, over-the-top, and absolutely sending you to pop Valhalla”.

It is quite simply glorious, an affectionate parody that has its fun but also celebrates the brilliant wonderfulness of this most idiosyncratically uplifting of contests.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga releases on 26 June on Netflix.

  1. I like the idea of Will Ferrell and he does have some funny lines and moves but I worry that this – like many of his movies – might not come together fully.
But then again us Eurovision fans would be hard to please here lol
    Funny song, though

    1. Yeah, I’m not a big Will Ferrel fan but he does occasionally strike gold – see Elf – so I am going to hope he gets the comedic balance right. Fingers crossed! And yeah we cane fussy! LOL

  2. Watching it tonight and looking forward to it! 🙂 Reports have been good so glad you enjoyed it too 🙂 Plan to have the review up tomorrow
