I spy a new gleefully funny trailer for The Penguins of Madagascar

SNAPSHOT
Discover the secrets of the most entertaining and mysterious birds in the global espionage game: Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private now must join forces with the chic spy organization, the North Wind, led by Agent Classified (we could tell you his name, but then… you know), voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine, voiced by John Malkovich, from taking over the world.

If there is one thing I love – besides, of course Ryan Gosling, The Walking Dead, snappy oneliners in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, songs by Coldplay and Kite String Tangle, and books with quirky narratives and/or characters – it’s a truly goofy, silly, laugh-out-loud funny animated movie.

In that respect, the new trailer for the upcoming Penguins of Madagascar ticks all the boxes and then some, although there is nothing even remotely stealthy about these spies (apart from their ability to roll across striped pedestrian crossings in a totally camouflaged, and yes “flipping” hilarious, way).

The oneliners and witty observations are flowing thick and fast as Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, somewhat involuntarily, join forces with uber-funky spy group North Wind to defeat the nefarious evil of Dr. Octavius Brine – who if there is any justice in the world will have a triumphant tentacle-waving Bond villain-esque scene at the end of the film celebrating his impending, but naturally never-to-be-released victory – something I’m sure they will manage through a slew of bon mots, witty quips and visual sight gags.

It is gleefully, hilarious, gorgeously silly – and even comes with an origin story of sorts for our comical crime-fighting friends – proof that after appearing in all three Madagascar movies, and their very own Christmas Caper short, the world’s only riverdancing penguins can more than hold their own film (not to mention blending in not at all on the streets of Dublin).

Penguins of Madagascar opens in USA on 26 November 2014 and in Australia on 1 January 2015.

And just in case you missed it, here’s the first trailer for the movie, which tracks an entire gag involving Skipper, Cheese Dibbles and an increasingly fast-talking Agent Classified to devastatingly funny effect.
