SNAPSHOT
Returning to the universe of TNT’s hit movie franchise, The Librarian, this new series centers on an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to protecting an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. This group solves impossible mysteries, fights supernatural threats and recovers powerful artifacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, the Spear of Destiny and Excalibur. The end of Warehouse 13 in mid-2014 left a great gaping hole in my quirky, wacky but enormously clever and heartfelt TV show viewing schedule.

What could possibly replace the artifact-rich adventures of Pete & Myka, Claudia and Jinksie, Artie and Mrs. Frederic? To which show could I turn for goofy adventures, richly-informed by mythos and knowledge?

It turns out that a show had been close at hand all along, way before I even needed it.

The Librarians, initially aired in the form of three telemovies from 2004 to 2008, starring Noah Wyle as a mysterious Librarian who acted as the storekeeper of a vast wealth of knowledge and magic while battling the forces of evil who sought to take it from him and indeed all humanity, had everything I wanted – intelligence, goofiness, heart by the shelf full and an incredible knack for blending, like Warehouse 13, silly, madcap adventures with some fascinating nuggets of history and myth.

What it also had from 7 December, 2014 was a ten episode first series on TNT, closely followed by second similarly-numbered series in 2015 and now thank the gods of all magic and mischievous happenstance, a third starting this November.

When last we left our intrepid Librarians, now grown in number to four, they had managed to defeat a possessed Shakespeare, consumed by his own creation Prospero, and reverse the transformation of the world from a forested idyll back into the social media, 24/7 world we know, love and wish would just shut up for a minute.

No doubt there will be more world-saving in the next season which promises a cataclysmic battle for Flynn (Noah Wyle), Rebecca (Rebecca Romijn), Cassandra (Lindy Booth), Ezekiel (John Kim), Jacob (Christian Kane) and Jenkins (John Larroquette) ahead, along with more goofy repartee, witty oneliners, and tongue-in-cheek derring-do!

The Librarians season 3 premieres 8/7c Sunday 20 November on TNT.

  1. Love The Librarians! Christian Kane as Jake Stone really rocks his role. (oops a couple of typo’s in the year 2004 you have 20004 and it was The Librarian trilogy.. no “s” on the end and Wyle has no “i”) Thanks for sharing ♥
