Little girl, big city! Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt loses its berets over season 4

As a gay man, it’s not an everyday occurrence for me to fall in love with a woman.

But I long ago fell head over heels in love, smittenness and eternal like with Kimmy Schmidt (apologies to Sandra Bullock, my other great love), she of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt who willingness to take on all comers, despite a substantial scarcity of social skills, life resources and guile – being locked in a bunker for over a decade by a a John Hamm-ish cult leader will do that to ya – and her sheer vivacity for everything life has to offer.

She is everything we’d all like to be, and while that doesn’t protect from the slips, falls and existential banana peel-inspired slip-ups we all experience, her ability to bounce back and keep on going is a delight in every way.

So while news that season four of this brilliantly quirky, often surreally off-the-charts funny is a near-deathly TV-viewing blow, I take great comfort in the fact that Kimmy (Ellie Kemper), Titus (Tituss Burgess), Lillian (Carol Kane) and Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) and lots of cool guest stars will be back for six episodes starting May 30 with the balance coming along at an unspecified time later in the year.

Get your berets ready everyone …
