Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga focuses on Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir, two struggling Icelandic musicians who join the contest. Joining Will Ferrell (Elf, Blades of Glory) and Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Game Night) are Pierce Brosnan (Mrs. Doubtfire, Mamma Mia!) as Erick Erickssong, Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast) as Alexander Lemtov and Demi Lovato (Camp Rock) as Katiana. It takes a lot to get to Eurovision.
Some artists, mindful both of the national prestige and the worldwide fame that comes from representing their country, spend years trying out in various national contests to be chosen and exult when they are.
So, while the doubters and the mockers may make fun of the Contest – I pity them since while they’re being so cool, they’re missing on great songs, artistry and a sense of inclusive fun that few other events even come close to managing (yes, I’m a fan) – the reality is people want to perform there, which is for all its comic stylings, and with Will Ferrell in one of the lead roles, they are plenty, there is a great amount of heart to the Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
The film was originally intended to come out around the time of this year’s contest, which was cancelled because of COVID-19, but was delayed leaving us with a short taster snippet of the song “Volcano Man” which takes the duo to the heights of Eurovision fame … or does it?
We’ll find out when Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga releases 26 June on Netflix.
I can’t wait now. The trailer looks like it could have a lot of potential beyond what I expected.
