“From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.”

Leave it to the amazingly imaginative folks at Pixar to take us somewhere that animation has never gone before – the inside of an emotionally-stirred up little girl as she tries to handle some big changes in her life.

No doubt bringing their usual mix of humour and poignancy – the great joy of any Pixar movie is the way it combines great art, deep humanity and laugh-out-loud hilarity to potent and moving effect – Inside Out promises a touching examination of something that many of us have been through before, a major, deeply unsettling change in our lives.

And let’s face it, while we might rationally know it’s all going to be OK, our emotions tend to march way out of step with that logical assessment, filling us with hope and joyful expectation one moment, anger at our changed circumstances the next, and fear that we will never, ever figure this new situation out.

It all makes perfect sense, and I can certainly relate, having been through a major move when I was 11 to a new town, school, church (my dad was a Baptist minister) and experiencing every last emotion that Riley goes through.

Which is why I am looking forward to Inside Out, which opens in Australia on 18 June 2015 and in USA on 19 June, with much excited anticipation, made all the more fevered by these new posters and videos Pixar have released introduced us to Riley’s five main emotions.

I wonder what that emotion would look like?

And speaking of new things, and specifically new Pixar things, a new trailer has been released for the upcoming TV special on ABC, Toy Story That Time Forgot.

SNAPSHOT
After a post-Christmas play date, the Toy Story gang finds themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. If the gang hopes to return to Bonnie’s room, they’ll have to rely on Trixie the triceratops (Kristen Schaal). (synopsis via EW)

The new trailer comes hot on the heels of news that Pixar are making Toy Story 4, an announcement that has been greeted with great joy, and also trembling trepidation (Toy Story 3 ended so perfectly, some say, so why mess it?) – there goes those emotions once again; think we need a whole raft of extra posters Pixar art department! – and assurances by none other than the great John Lasseter himself, once head of Pixar and now of Disney animation as a whole, who had this to say about the fourth instalment in this very much-loved series:

“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.”

I am thrilled at the news – who wouldn’t want to spend as much time as possible with this bunch of engaging, richly-drawn characters?

Until then however, and remember it’s two years before we see the film so don’t join the line at the cinema just yet, there’s another Tpy Story special coming our way which now has an extra trailer to herald its impending arrival.

Toy Story That Time Forgot premieres at 8pm, 2 December on ABC.

Now, have you ever wondered what the various voice actors that give the Pixar characters vocal life look like?

Sure we hear the names bandied about, and are likely familiar with many of the actors but have you ever taken the time to look them up and see how similar they are to the characters they portray?

No, well Buzzfeed most happily has and it’s a lot of fun to see the actors and their animated doppelgangers of sorts side-by-side …

And finally, if you have always wanted to go and immerse yourself in the world of Andy’s room, you will soon be able to when you finish Disney Resorts in Shanghai as C|net reports via io9:

On Saturday, Disney revealed concept art for the resort, which is on track to open at the end of 2015. The Toy Story hotel is massive, and is designed from top to bottom to immerse guests in the world of Toy Story. The building facade will feature the clouds found on the wallpaper in Andy’s room; the center courtyard has a statue of the ball prominently featured in the movies; and the inside of the hotel will feature many displays and designs inspired by the toys in the Disney Pixar films.”

It looks like my imagination sprung to life and I can’t wait to check in!
