Teaser poster for “The Walking Dead” mid-season 3 return released

As I suspected the Governor, who lost an eye and his zombie-fied daughter in a violent tussle with Michonne in his very own secret fishtanks-full-of-zombie-heads chamber o’ horrors – the perfect place to rest and relax after tending to your Stepford Wives-esque refuge from the apocalypse don’t you think? Haha … no – is not a happy camper.

Like a wounded predator, and let’s face it, once all the PR gloss he dishes out to the survivors of the end of the world who crowd into his fiefdom, Woodbury (even if they do suspect something, they lap up his platitudes since it is a more palatable alternative to the monsters who lurk beyond the sanctuary’s perimeter) is stripped away, he is just that, he is angrier than ever and ready to take revenge with all the fury he can manage.

And after everything he has lost, that is a significant amount of furious firepower.

Rick and the gang had better watch out when The Walking Dead makes its mid season return on February 10.

On top of the release of the poster above, comes news that Glen Mazzara, who stepped into the showrunner shoes for The Walking Dead when Frank Darabont somewhat controversially departed in July 11, has now also left the show, which under his care had amped up the action and pace to pretty much universal acclaim.

While there is a great deal of conjecture out there about what brought on  Mazzara’s shock departure – it is generally regarded as a shock as the general feeling was that the show had found a new lease of creative care with him in charge – this article on thehollywoodreporter.com does speculate on what might have gone down with opinion tending towards the idea that the creator of The Walking Dead comics, Robert Kirkman calls the shot because AMC, the cable channel that broadcasts the show needs his fan base.

Whatever the reason for the loss of yet another showrunner, the power struggle that must have raged behind the scenes does remind me of one of the central theses of the show – that we have more to fear from our fellow man than the zombies.

I suspect Glen Mazzara may agree wholeheartedly with that idea.
