What starts out as a fun road trip for the Toy Story gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse when the trip detours to a roadside motel. After one of the toys goes missing, the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate in this Toy Story of Terror. They’re baaaack!

No, not the demon spawn of hell thank you – I mean Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles) and my favourite Rex (Wallace Shawn) – in the first of two 22 minute TV specials Pixar has scheduled for 2013 and 2014.

Directed by Angus MacLane, who has worked on every Pixar release since A Bug’s Life, it finds everyone’s favourite bunch of toys in fine form but stuck in a haunted motel far from home.

Who knows what lurks in its dim cobweb-laden recesses?

Probably nothing too scary but it will be fun watching Mr. Potato Head fall apart with fear (which he does in the trailer), Rex quiver with anxiety (so nothing’s changed there then; he is so cute when he’s afraid) and Buzz, Woody and Jessie, naturally, save the day!

Frankly the promo trailer is worth it just for the Pez dispenser visual alone. (I am still giggling about it which is making typing this a challenge.)

Be prepared to go to heebie-jeebies and beyond on October 16 at 8/7c.
