Up and down: Pixar releases the storyboard for the impossibly romantic classic film’s opening sequence

It is, without any doubt whatsoever, one of the most heartbreakingly-beautiful, touchingly-romantic sequences in cinema, animated or otherwise.

The opening 10 minutes of Up, Pixar’s tale of love, hope, dreams and second chances, where we see Carl and Ellie plan for the best but end up caught up, like all of us, in much of life’s banal necessities and yet somehow remain blissfully happy and deeply in love, is one of life’s truly great things.

Granted it rips your heart in two as much as it uplifts but only because the sequence has so perfectly demonstrated what real love looks like and how it can help you get through the toughest of times.

To mark Valentine’s Day, Pixar released the opening sequence known as “Married Life” with the corresponding storyboard attached and while it is wonderful to see the two side-by-side and to appreciate the planned and final versions are alike and different all at once, I have to agree with EW that it does pull your heart out …

I dare you to watch it and not cry … see? Couldn’t do it could you and nor should you …
