Lights up on Washington Heights… The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines, and sings about a better life. The film features a cast that includes Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits. Escaping into a musical is one of life’s great pleasures.

In a skillfully-wrought musical riot of song ands lyrics we are taken into the world of characters who might face a great deal of pain or unparalleled challenges but who, more often not, come to some sort of happy accommodation with them in the end.

That’s not always the case of course but by and large they are an uplifting journey into the human spirit and no one, currently at least, seems to be doing it better than Lin-Manuel Miranda, who brought us Hamilton and also the Tony Award-winning In the Heights, which opened on Broadway in 2008 and is now a highly-promising film.

The time has come indeed and we have these amazing character posters to get us ready for when In the Heights releases in theatres on 11 June in USA, 18 June in UK and 24 June in Australia.
