Have you ever watched a cartoon or TV show or movie and wished, really wished, that the figures would come crashing through the screen and inhabit the comparatively dull real world with you?

Granted The Simpsons, Looney Tunes and a whole host of TV show and movie characters have done just that in some limited form, but what if the characters you know and love entered the most banal parts of your day – perfunctory weekday meals, commuting, meeting with your tax accountant (having Animal scream “MORE MONEY! MORE … MONEY!” would revolutionise tax time)?

It’s an idea that obviously occurred to talented artist October Jones who decided to do something about his idle daydreams, bringing his daily commute alive with all sorts of creative pop culture characters popping up on the heads of his fellow commuters.

And the results are damn near magical, transforming ordinary scenes of travelling drudgery into perfectly formed moments of the Fourth Wall breaking down.

If all the time I spent on public transport included travelling companions like he imagines he has, then I’d never leave the train!

You can check out more of his superb imaginings at funcage.

  1. Like Kenneth on “30 Rock”, I do tend to see the world through Muppet-coloured glasses. I must say however, on the odd occasion I am in an auto-parts store or a mechanic’s garage, I oft feel like the pork chop Bugs Bunny sometimes morphs into, when in the presence of predatory cartoon figures. Me no likey auto shops.

  2. They’re great glasses to look through! I think I do too 🙂 Auto shops and builders for me LOL Don’t know why they unsettle me so but they do
